Obituary
Marvin J. Ebben was reunited with his beloved wife, Mattie, when he was welcomed into heaven on February 8th, 2023. Marv was born in Little Chute to Chris and Sophie (Janssen) Ebben on March 14th, 1928.
After high school, Marv proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Guam.  He married Mattie Van Groll on October 28th, 1952 and together lovingly raised 4 children. He retired from the Kimberly mill in 1990 after 36 years as first fireman in the boiler room.  Marv and Mattie built their dream home in Darboy. He loved watching the wildlife and especially feeding his orioles and cardinals. He took great pride in his home and was often teased about his “manicured” lawn.

He enjoyed traveling, bowling, and golfing (even getting a hole in one) in his retirement. His greatest joy, however, was in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He could often be found lying on the floor playing with the little ones. Family was his top priority.  He was always the first one there when someone needed a hand. If dad didn’t know how to fix something, no one did.
Marv was a proud, humble, and fiercely independent man. Recent years were difficult when, due to declining health, he had to depend on others. He faced those struggles with courage, deep faith and kindness to all.

Marv will be dearly missed by his four children; Dave (Lynn) Ebben, Debbie (Randy) Jack, Jean (Pat) Gaffney, and Jim (Ammie) Ebben, 13 grandchildren; Matthew (Irene) Ebben, Brad (Andrea) Ebben, Danielle (Nick) Hallett, Derek (Kristy) Jack, Chris (Katie) Jack, Rob (Kristin) Jack, Ryan (Alisa) Gaffney, Jason (Michelle) Gaffney, Kelyn (Andy) Navarrete, Beau (Beth) Ebben, Bailey (Patrick) Lagman, Brett Ebben, and Bryce (special friend, Annika) Ebben, 17 great grandchildren; Easton, Josh, Nolan, Austin, Emily, Eli, Colin, Elena, Kaylee, Bennett, Keaton, Averie, Logan, Tressa, Mattie, Lylah, and Harlow. Sisters: Barbara Levandowski, Betty Verbruggen, Ida Mae Hammen, a brother fr. Bertrand Ebben, O.P., and a brother-in-law Bob (Sue) Kreikamp, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The souls waiting to greet Marv in heaven include his wife, Mattie, parents Chris and Sophie Ebben, siblings: Rich (Jakie) Ebben, Bob Ebben, Ione (Bill) Van Sambeek, Ida Ebben, Rita Ebben, brothers-in-law: Bill Hammen, John Levandowski, and John Verbruggen, mother and father-in-law Marie and Harry Kreikamp, Matthew Van Groll and brother-in-law Jim (Maxine) Kreikamp
Our sincere thanks to the staff at Country Villa in Little Chute. Their compassion and patience will never be forgotten. They became like a second family to Marv. We are deeply grateful for the support from the staff at Moments Hospice, especially “doctor” Brittany, Lisa and Becky for the skillful, loving care they extended to Marv and his family.

In keeping with Marv’s wishes a private family celebration of life will be held. In honor of Marv’s memory, please consider doing a random act of kindness for someone in need.
