Ernst also was a shoemaker most of his life.
Like his brother Christian, he moved to Newport but continued to work in Cincinnati.
In 1866 he married a woman named Annie, born 29 March 1847 in Holland.
Their children were Annie (born about 1868 in Kentucky) and Eva (born May 1891 in Kentucky).
Most of his life Ernst lived and worked near Christian, but in 1895 he began working for a railroad.
He was killed in a railroad accident 18 July 1906 in Cincinnati. His wife Annie died 26 February 1907 in Cincinnati.
